Civic Empowerment and Disability Rights Education:

Project: Establishing Radio Listening Clubs within LDPA cell groups

Target Group: LDPA Members in 8 Provinces.

Project Description:

The establishment of the radio and listening clubs in cells follows continued work in Civic empowerment. Through providing disabled people with the skills to identify disability rights issues record and produce radio programs greater civic dialogue on human rights can occur.

LDPA cell group members in villages throughout Lao record 3 radio segments each month: a story, an interview and a discussion.

The cell group identifies the issues involved from the Disability Rights Cake

The cake highlights 8 areas needed for greater inclusion and include: law, policy and practice, education, employment, relationships, media and language, definition, and rights.

These 8 parts of pie form the basis of recordings in issues affecting people in villages.

Recordings are played to policy makers and NGOs to create a dialogue based on human rights issues effecting disabled people and their communities in the Lao PDR.

Recordings are then collated at LDPA HQ were they are edited and produced into a weekly 30 minute radio program that is aired on Lao National Radio and two provincial radio stations, Champassak and Xieng Khoung.
